Stephanie L. Dobson
Understanding that strong emotions are involved, Stephanie Dobson helps clients view separation and divorce in perspective to move through the process more smoothly. Stephanie believes that framing divorce as a transition and not an end in itself enables clients to take an active role in making important decisions. By shifting emphasis to the future, she assists clients in defusing conflict, working through issues in a less volatile way, and achieving resolution sooner.
Stephanie is adept at handling complex cases that involve child custody, child support, division of property, and spousal support claims. She utilizes her skills in mediation and collaborative law to expand the range of creative solutions, and keep families out of the court system. As a trained parenting coordinator, Stephanie helps high conflict families develop effective co-parenting relationships for the sake of their children. Stephanie’s clients appreciate her high level of communication and responsiveness, and her adoption of cutting-edge technology that allows them to see the impact of taxes and child support numbers in real time. With every divorce, Stephanie’s goal is to minimize the emotional and financial costs by focusing on the future, staying out of court, and bringing about an efficient resolution.
In addition to her practice, Stephanie is an adult educator, focusing on teaching parents about the legal aspects of separation and divorce (including Alberta Justice’s Parenting After Separation course). She also teaches lawyers, mediators and other professionals on topics relating to the Collaborative Process, Mediation, and technology. As community service is an integral part of Stephanie’s life, she is an active member of the Lloydminster Rotary Club and is part of a team of Rotarians who takes a group of Rotary International exchange students from Edmonton to Yellowknife for a winter adventure each year in February. Stephanie enjoys staying active and spending quality time with her husband and three young children.
